That’s the first thing that popped into my head. ‘Near’ and ‘far’ are opposite concepts. Concrete things are rarely exact opposites. More often, their differences are about contrast and juxtaposition. Here are some examples:

Saturday’s morning paper has just thudded on my driveway … Australians will vote in their federal election today … Will we get more of the same ? … or opposites? What a gift it is to start the day, early and peacefully … with a little ‘hip’ beat in the background.
