A woodland wildflower…it has 5 leaves in an umbrella fashion with one flower that opens beneath the canopy on the stem and turns into a little green apple when mature. This one actually will have opened up to two “umbrellas”, with the flower bud in the middle (a common variation). Check it out on Wikipedia!

That is such an interesting photo. What exactly is it?
It is a May Apple, just emerging, with its leaves not yet unfurled.
Nicely captured–mine are not close to that stage. They are such a treat in spring.
They create such a lovely canopy for small frogs and such.
