I finally went and bought my new camera! I bought it Thursday evening, and it’s still in the box. But today is my day off, and I will open up my birthday present and spend some time getting acquainted. This Thursday, I go to a 3 hour class to learn the basics of using it (part of a package deal on the purchase). I have wanted to take a photography class ever since I was in High School. Better late than never! I got the Canon Rebel T3i with EF-S 18-55mm lens. Wish me luck and happy snapping!

Maybe I should give my son the old camera until he gets his Nikon fixed?

Ooooo I am soo delighted for you Scilla… whewn you get a little used to it you will see that the standard lens will not be enough for you.. you now need a zoom too that will really make a huge difference, an essential bit of kit and buy the very best you can afford…. it will reach many, many things that an 18-55 simply cannot get to… I have a 55-300 which is what I use most of the time except obviously for macro!.
Health to enjoy x
Yes, getting additional lenses is the next step. I want to pace myself!

Good luck.
Time for a sketchbook/scrap book too? Something to note down the projects and experiments, disasters, perfect pics, etc. Also, cut outs from mags of pictures that you like – reference if you like.
Oh, that’s a good idea. Thanks!

Yea, good for you! I recently bought a new camera too but sadly no classes for me 😦 I have been having fun with it though.
Nowadays, you get video instructions on a disc as well as the printed ones. And there are lots of good instruction books you can purchase. It’s just a matter of finding the time to read and practice!
