Anne, our Challenge host this week, instructs, “Black and white is the result of only using black or white and ‘shades of’. The ‘shades of’ meaning grayscale… Monochrome photos contain variations of only one color and nothing else. Meaning, different shades of one color like blue, red, green, etc.” My side-by-side comparison of Fern Frost gives you the ability to see what you think of the two. Do they seem to evoke different moods, different levels of curiosity?

There is a real challenge in finding subjects that are monochrome. I must say that I don’t often look for compositions or subjects that feature color as their distinguishing attraction. The LA Challenge of primary colors was one that my photo files just couldn’t address. If only GREEN were a primary color!

Well Priscilla, I’d say if you only had ONE image in your entire collection, that image of the flowers in monochrome should be it! I absolutely loved that and hope you have it framed somewhere in your home.
Oh, thank you, Tina! I don’t have it framed, in fact I only cropped and edited it today for this Challenge. I’m glad you like it so well!
The fern frost is stunning in both colors. The first of the two feels feels formal, classy, classic. The second immediately took me to autumn. Have a good week, Priscilla.
Thanks, Donna. Yes, autumn is in the air around here now. It’s like the return of a cozy friend. 🙂
Priscilla, the opening photo comparing the two photos was excellent. It is amazing how my perception changed between the two edits. I liked the color monochrome, by the way. Nice post!
Thank you so much!
Priscilla, you put your artistic talents to work on this one with a wonderful monochrome and clever black and whites. I’m so glad you enjoyed this challenge.
Thanks, Anne!
Excellent selections! The opening image is stunning!
Thanks, Amy!
I do love the first photo with the frost in black and white…definitely gives you the wintry feel to the overall picture.
Thanks, Linda. Those ice crystals really do pop with the black background.
Your fern photos are lovely, both in colour and b&w and I also like your monochrome, nice details there. Great post, Priscilla.
Thanks, Sofia! 🙂
